Chekhov used to say, I have my own theater, and people assumed he was talking about the Moscow Art Theatre, but then Chekhov would tap his forehead and say, . . . in here.

Rock Beauty

a novel
by Shamrock McShane

"Rock Beauty comes out of Key West, where certain men have gone beyond ordinary modes of self destruction into a specie of second-power survival. Things not obviously bad for you are the most suspect of all. There is a kind of redemption in a vision of folk who refuse to be redeemed and therefore redeeming."     Padgett Powell
"In detail, Rock Beauty remains fascinating and full of life."     Donald Justice
"Shamrock McShane has wit and daring and a good grasp of the principles of drama."     David Mamet
